Kareena Kapoor finds the whole controversy around Taimur’s name quite bizarre.
The moment the name of Kareena Kapoor and Saif Ali Khan‘s new born son went public, Twitter turned into a mad place. The little boy was named Taimur Ali Khan and quite instantly, people started connecting the name with Timur, the ruthless Turk ruler. The couple was slammed for naming their son as such which left many infuriated. Rishi Kapoor lashed out at many who said unpleasant things about Taimur on social media. And now finally we have Kareena Kapoor‘s reaction to the same. The actress found the whole controversy quite bizarre.
Speaking to Mid-Day, Kareena said, “It (The controversy) was bizarre. I have no idea why people took my baby’s name so personally. But we love the name and let me put it this way — it has no resemblance to any person living or dead. We love the meaning (Taimur means iron in Arabic) and I am happy that [some] people came out in support of us so strongly. That support matters more than anything bad that was said or written.” We totally agree with her. What others think about her child’s name should never bother her. But then social media is a junkyard of everyone who has a network connection and a few words in their heads.
Saif had earlier spoken to Mumbai Mirror on the same issue. He said, “Perhaps, I should have added a disclaimer, as they do in the movies, that any resemblance to any person, living or dead, is purely coincidental.” He then decided to divulge a little more on what sets his son apart from the Turk ruler. “My wife and I love the sound of it and we love its meaning. I am aware of the heritage of the Turkish ruler–he was Timur, my son is Taimur, an ancient Persian name that means iron. In fact, of all the names I ran by Kareena, she liked this one the best because it’s beautiful and strong,“ he says, adding that Taimur was the name of a boy he’d grown up with and a cousin too. “It’s an old family name like Sara who was also named after a cousin I admired,” Saif added.
Hopefully, people who have issues with #Taimur’s name can go take a walk.
